Being healthy means more than simply being physically active. Its about maintaining a balanced spirit, mind and body. The Y is a place where you can work toward that balance by challenging yourself to learn a new skill or hobby, fostering connections with friends through our lifelong learning programs, or bring your loved ones closer together through our family-centered activities. At the Y, its not about the activity you choose as much as it is about the benefits of living healthier on the inside as well as the outside.
At the Y, a supportive community is a big part of wellness. At every age and every level of activity, you'll find people just like you looking to life a little bit healthier. Members and program participants often cite the support and enthusiasm of fellow participants and staff as some of the key factors in their achievement of greater well-being. One member sums up her favorite class this way: This is a great program, I've learned so much about how to eat healthier, how regular exercise contributes to my well-being, and I love the classes. I'm here several times a week now to work out and I love the new me!
Living healthy is about spirit, mind and body at every age and stage. The Y offers classes and programs for all ages, all levels and all interests. From low-impact exercise and chair classes, stretching and strength training to indoor cycling, water exercise, yoga and more, you'll find a group class that's fun, supportive and keeps you moving.

LES MILLS BODYPUMP is a barbell workout using light to moderate weights and high reps to get you lean and toned fast. A 55-minute BODYPUMP workout features ten tracks, each focusing on a different muscle group. You can expect to do a good dose of squats, deadlifts, clean and presses, lunges and bicep curls. And, more often than not you’ll find push ups, chest presses, overhead presses and crunches are part of the mix too. The combination of scientifically-backed moves, motivating instructors and great music helps you achieve much more than you would on your own.
The BODYPUMP class is free to members of the Duneland YMCA. Visitors may attend by purchasing a day pass for $15. Visit www.dunelandymca.org/schedules to view the class schedule.
LIVESTRONG at the YMCA focuses on you—the whole person—not the disease.
NEXT PROGRAM: TBD
This 12-week program meets twice a week for 75 minutes and uses traditional exercise methods to ease you back into fitness and help you maintain a healthy weight. You’ll focus on:
- building muscle mass and strength
- increasing flexibility and endurance
- improving confidence and self-esteem
Plus, learn about wellness, stress reduction techniques and how to continue healthful habits after the program has ended.
Just as important, LIVESTRONG at the YMCA encourages a warm spirit of community—a safe, comfortable place for you to build companionship with others affected by cancer and share stories and inspiration.
Taking It at Your Own Pace:
No one experiences cancer in the same way. Participants come to the program with different physical challenges and lifestyle goals.
LIVESTRONG at the YMCA provides you with individualized attention and an approach to recovery that targets the areas you need to rebuild. There’s no competition here—physical activities are tailored to match only what you’re able to accomplish.
