Swimming at the Y helps people thrive - in and out of the water. Swim lessons provide kids and teens with the opportunity to set goals and achieve success, learn water safety and enjoy swimming as a form of exercise. Through swimming lessons, aqua aerobics classes, lap swimming and more, the Duneland Family YMCA provides a safe environment for swimmers of all ages and abilities.

Pool Schedule

The Y Aquatic programs are positive, fun, healthy activities that build athletic, social, and interpersonal skills. Swimming builds self-confidence and develops the whole person – spirit, mind, and body. Group Swim Lessons

As the largest provider of swim lessons in the country, there’s no one more qualified than the Y to ensure swimmers build confidence with every stroke. Welcoming kids and adults of all ages and abilities, our program offers a clear progression track to monitor achievement while every lesson emphasizes personal safety around water.



Learning to swim is a valuable life skill that offers the freedom to participate in aquatic activities while preventing the risk of drowning. YMCA certified swim instructors teach water safety while encouraging youth to learn a variety of swim techniques. Give your child the opportunity to thrive both socially and physically with Y swim lessons. This summer we will offer two 4 weeks session of swim lessons.

What class is right for my child?

The YMCA invented swim lessons, and we never looked back!  Our program is bolstered by a 109-year foundation that sees over a million participants nationwide emerge as strong, safe swimmers each year.  We look forward to continuing that tradition and delivering quality, progressive and values-based programming to the community this spring. Swimming lesson are available 2 days a week for 4 weeks or one day a week for four weeks. Each lesson is 45 minutes long.

Program Components

Q: What date will the pool open?

A: The outdoor pool will be open Tuesday, June 1st - August 6, 2021.

Q: Will you close the pool if there is bad weather?

A: The outdoor pool will close if there is a chance of severe weather greater than 70% according to The pool will close for a minimum of 30 minutes following lightning or thunder. In the event of current or predicted inclement weather, the pool may be closed for the remainder of the day. 

Q: How do I know when open swim is?

A: Check our pool schedule for open swim times. All open swim times are available on our website. 

Q: What if my child is not potty trained?

A: All children who are not potty trained must wear swimmer diapers. Regular diapers inflate and can break apart in the pool.

Q: What do I need to bring for swimming class?

A: All participants must wear a bathing suit and shower prior to class. Rash guards are also acceptable to wear over the top of the suit. In order to maintain aquatic safety, please refrain from wearing any cotton materials or heavy weight items

Q: Where can I view my child’s lesson?

A: There is seating located near the pool deck for parents to view lessons. We ask that parents refrain from standing on the pool deck near the first aid station, or around the staff’s area; in case of emergency the lifeguards need easy access to this area

Q: What happens if my child misses a class?

A: Refunds/ credits will not be issued for missed classes unless the cancellation is due to weather, maintenance, or emergency-related closings. Make-up classes will be offered on Fridays during your child's swim lesson time.

A: Swimming lessons are offered in 4-week programs for 4 days a week. Each lesson is 45 minutes in length.
