Youth Development

$20 FOR A LIMITED TIME ONLY! 7 Peaks "Pass of all Passes" - Available ONLY at the YMCA from 4/28 - 5/4! You'll be getting a great bargain and 7 Peaks will donate a portion of the proceeds of every pass sold to the Duneland YMCA. Please help us achieve bigger and better things! The "Pass Of All Passes" entitles purchaser to unlimited admission to all of the following: 7 Peaks Waterpark, 7 Peaks Fun Center (excludes shoes), Washington Park Zoo, Oasis Splash Park, Talltree Arboretum & Gardens, all home Railcats games, Inman's Bowling & Recreation center (excludes shoes & arcades), Zao Island (includes free game of laser tag & golf Mon.-Fri. until May 2014, excludes arcades. ZUMBATHON FUNDRAISER! MAY 16 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. Join the fun and help raise money for the Y Fitness Department! All proceeds will be used to purchase a new metal rack full of hand weights for classes and workouts. Cost is $10 per person at the door, and additional donations during the event will be appreciated. Receive a FREE water bottle if you bring a guest. Door prizes. YOUTH SPORTS WITH CPD & CFD! The Chesterton Police and Fire Departments have partnered with the Duneland Family YMCA to coordinate gym activities with area youth. Beginning March 3rd from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. The program will run in the Y Gym Monday through Thursday each week for dodgeball, kickball, basketball and flag football. This program is open to the community, and free to all. Youth will have an opportunity to get to know the men and women who protect the community, and they'll have a great time trying to outscore them! No registration - JUST SHOW UP!

STRONG GIRL! For girls in grades 3-5 - Promotes self-esteem and leadership. Girls make new friends, build their confidence and celebrate all that makes them unique. The purpose is to promote positive emotional, social, mental and physical development. Participants explore beliefs around experiences and challenges all girls face and develop skills and strategies to help navigate through them through fitness and friendship.  Each girl will be entitled to a woman mentor to provide a positive experience. At the end of the course, the girls will participate in a community project and a big fitness event. Program runs March 9 - June 8 and meets each Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at the Duneland Y. Healthy Living

Lose the Belly Weight and Feel Great! Can't lose the belly weight? Tired? Want to control your blood pressure, sugar, heart and cholesterol issues? Come join the fun as Dr. Madiha Saeed, MD teaches you the key points to accelerate weight loss. Dr. Saeed is Board Certified in Family Medicine. She will explain the diet and lifestyle changes that will help with belly weight loss. Look and feel great for the summer! Lose the Belly Weight and Feel Great! will meet on Tuesday, April 29th at 10:00 a.m., in the Community Room. This seminar is free, open to the public and child care is available.

Fitness - New BAT Class - Mondays & Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. in the Fitness Room. Class focuses on toning the butt, abs and thighs. New Play Strong Live Strong for Kids 8-12 - Monday & Wednesdays at 4:00 p.m. in the Fitness Room. Have fun and keep moving with motivating games and activities played to upbeat music. Use all your major muscle groups! Parents welcome. Kids must be escorted to and from class. Class is free for members. Cost is $5 for non-members. New Danz Party for Kids 8-12 with instructor Vicky on tuesdays & Thursdays at 4:00 p.m. in the Fitness Room. 45 minutes of fun, easy choreographed dance routines to youth appropriate music. Parents welcome. Kids must be escorted to and from class. Class is free for members. Cost is $5 for non-members. New Spin Class - on Wednesdays at noon in the Community Room with new instructor Sue McLaughlin. 

COMMUNITY NURSE - On Friday, April 25, the Community Wellness Nurse will be conducting blood pressure, blood sugar and body mass index screeneings from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. in the Senior Center.

TAE KWON DO CLASSES - Learn how to defend yourself while learning how to use your mind and body in a way that requires self discipline, self-motivation and respect for others. Become a true martial artist. Class schedule: Traditional Forms on Tuesdays at 5:00 p.m., JKD Defense / Sparring on Thursdays at 5:00 p.m. and Board Breaking & Weapons on Saturdays at 11:00 a.m. Single student cost - $75/month; family rate for 2 or more - $150/month. Social Responsibility

SENIOR CENTER - OPEN TO THE PUBLIC: WEEKLY: Monday, Wednesday & Friday - Building Fit Friends at 10:30 a.m.; Tuesday & Thursday - Silver Sneakers at 10:30 a.m.; Fridays - Bingo at 11:45 a.m. APRIL EVENTS: Mondays on the 28th - Movies & Popcorn @ 11:45 a.m. Bring a lunch or snack. Wednesday, April 23rd @ noon - Dorothy Hoffman's 94th Birthday Celebration at Addison Pointe. Lunch cost is $5.00.

PARENT'S NIGHT OUT - Every Friday night 6:00-9:30 PM, Parents can utilize the Parent’s Night Out program and stop worrying about finding a sitter. Trained YMCA staff have organized and fun activities planned to keep each child’s attention. From arts and crafts to gym time it is never a dull moment on Friday evenings at the Y. Not to mention, it is affordable! The cost for members is $10 for the first child & $5 for each additional child. The non-member rate is $20 for the first child & $10 for each additional child. Your Duneland Family YMCA Story - The Y is interested in your Y story. YOU MATTER TO US! We'd like to create "story boards" to display within our facility to help create friendships and a better understanding of our cause.
