Y OPEN HOUSE - The Duneland Family YMCA is hosting open houses on Tuesday, December 10th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday, December 14th from 10:00 a.m. until noon. "Giving Tree" Donations - Our Senior Center has been busy making $5.00 & $10.00 ornaments for the Duneland Family YMCA annual "Giving Tree". Please stop by the Y on or after Dec. 4th, pick the ornament of your choice and donate the amount indicated to benefit Duneland families through the Y's Family Assistance Program. Your generosity this holiday season will help ensure a healthier future for children attending the Y Preschool and School Age Child Care programs.
Preschool - NOW ENROLLING 2 YEAR OLDS (includes potty training)! For children aged six weeks to kindergarten from 5:45 a.m. to - 6:30 p.m. Preschool activities are presented with intent to prepare children for kindergarten. Curriculum consists of structured playtime (group games, science experiments & more) & unstructured playtime (free choice activities, gym time, etc.), appreciation for nature, age appropriate academics including shapes, colors, letter recognition and emergent reading, The YMCA's core values are taught and practiced in the areas of responsibility, respect, caring & honesty. The YMCA's areas of focus are: healthy living, reinforced with healthy snacks and exercise, social responsibility - teaching about our community and other's needs, youth development - curriculum and experiential learning. School Age Child Care provides a safe, structured environment for after school care from kindergarten through sixth grade. Located in all Duneland elementary schools from dismissal time to 6:00 p.m. Early morning care also available from 6:00 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. Call 921-0183 for inf.
Parent's Night Out - Every Friday night 6:00-9:30 PM, Parents can utilize the Parent’s Night Out program and stop worrying about finding a sitter. Trained YMCA staff have organized and fun activities planned to keep each child’s attention. From arts and crafts to gym time it is never a dull moment on Friday evenings at the Y. Not to mention, it is affordable! The cost for members is $10 for the first child & $5 for each additional child. The non-member rate is $20 for the first child & $10 for each additional child.
December is Duneland YMCA Fit Friends Month!!! - Bring a friend to join during the month of December and receive one FREE month of membership (a minimum $35 value) and FREE t-shirt for you and your friend ($30 value). The $50 joiners fee for your friend who joins for a minimum of 3 months will be waived. The only stipulation is that sponsoring and joining members "Like us EVERYWHERE" on FaceBook & Twitter. Community Nurse - On Friday, December 6th, the Community Wellness Nurse will be providing bone density screenings from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. in the Senior Center at the Duneland Family YMCA.
American Red Cross Blood Drive - On Monday, December 16th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the American Red Cross will host a blood drive at the Duneland YMCA. Please call 1-800-RED CROSS or go to redcrossblood.org and enter sponsor code "dunelandymca" to schedule an appointment.
Fitness - NEW! Beginner Yoga - Classes begin on Wednesday, Dec. 4 with instructor Mary Dacey in the Fitness Room. SENIORS ARE WELCOME! Yoga classes every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. with instructor Chris in the Community Room. NEW! 20/20/20 Training This hour of fitness includes 20 minutes each of cardio workout, core training and strength training. Class meets every Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. in the Fitness Room with instructor Ashley. Insanity Workout - choreographed high intensity interval training program to build muscle while stripping away fat. Classes on Monday and Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Pilates Bender Method - the Bender method is sculpts the body without risk of over-use injuries. Classes each Tuesday and Thursday at 8:00 a.m. NEW! Luna Mixed Martial Arts meets each Tuesday and Thursday at 6:00 p.m. Be part of a team and get fit, strong and confident practicing MMA. This class offers a ranking system. Participants will be able to learn and practice self defense techniques, boxing and kickboxing, Jiu-jitsu, Kung Fu, Muay Thai and grappling. Cost for the course is $60 per month. For those who register before January 1st will receive half off the first months' fee. Participants will also receive a free team t-shirt while supplies last.
