Youth Development

GIRLS BASKETBALL LEAGUE, GIRLS AGES 5-12 – starts Sunday, October 4 at 1:00pm and meets for six weeks. This will be a fun and interactive way to learn the game. Learn to shoot, dribble, pass, and play defense. Focus on teamwork, sportsmanship and fundamentals of the game. Cost is $40 for members; $80 for nonmembers. NFL PUNT PASS & KICK! Show off your skills in the Y’s FREE first ever NFL PUNT PASS & KICK competition. Register at www.nflppk.com/competitions/register/index. ENSURE A BRIGHTER FUTURE.  Prepare your child for academic success! The Duneland Family YMCA Early Childhood Program believes the values and skills learned early on are vital building blocks for future success in school and life. The YMCA is the largest and leading provider of Early Education in the Duneland Community and is known to provide an environment that is safe, caring, and respectful of each child and his or her family. This program is dedicated to quality child care and education by providing young children with creative learning experiences rooted in early childhood theory and practice. Our Preschool staff are intentional about making learning fun, by integrating the Arts, STEM, Cognitive, Physical, and Social-Emotional development objectives into the daily curriculum. Healthy child development starts early. That’s why we offer Preschool programs that help children learn the essential skills they’ll need later on. We work to help everyone have the best possible start in their education and arrive at their first day of Kindergarten ready to learn. Preschool is offered to children ages 6 weeks – 5 years in a variety of full and half days. Our facility offers secure entrance, large classrooms, indoor and outdoor play ground, summer swimming lessons, weekly fitness class, Minds in Motion, and more. FUN ZONE FITNESS – starts August 6 from 5:30-7:00pm. This is a fun fitness class for kids age 7 to 13 to exercise and have a blast while parents workout. Parents can rest assured that an instructor will provide their child/children with a safe and fun environment to start building a strong fitness foundation. Includes circuits, cardio, Pilates, weight training, dodgeball, racquetball and obstacle courses. Instructor Shanna will help your kids have fun! ENROLL YOUR INFANT TODAY! The Early Childhood Program is designed to provide an environment that is safe, caring, and respectful of each child and his or her family while supporting each child’s unique developmental growth. This program is dedicated to quality child care by providing young children with creative learning experiences rooted in early childhood theory and practice. Our childcare staff focus is the same as yours, with emphasis placed on learning how to crawl, walk, talk, play, share, and dance. Flash cards, songs, books, Sign Language, discovery, and hands on crafts are integrated throughout the learning process.  Infant care is 5 days a week at $170/wk. LEARN SOCCER NOW – The Preschool Soccer Academy starts on Saturday Sept. 19 through Saturday October 31 at 9:00 am for boys and girls ages 3-5. Kids will learn the basic skills of soccer such as passing, dribbling, scoring and blocking goals. They’ll learn to build self-esteem and confidence in the fundamentals. HALF DAY PRESCHOOL OPEN HOUSE - Wednesday, July 8th, 10a - 2p or 4p-6p.  Preview two amazing new half day programs for your preschooler being offered at the Y's Early Childhood Development Facility starting this fall. If your child is 3-5 years old, they'll engage in age-appropriate activities and curriculum focusing on the development of the whole child. For children entering kindergarten in the fall of 2016 or who are four by August 1, 2015, the Half Day Pre-K program designed to provide children with the foundation necessary for kindergarten readiness and positive future learning. PASS, CATCH, KICK – Preschool Flag Football Sports Academy is designed to help early sports learners understand the basics of the game. They’ll learn how to catch, pass and run with a football. Along with these skills, they’ll also develop self-esteem and leadership skills while working as a team. Saturdays at 1:00pm starting on September 19 through October 31 for boys and girls ages 3-5. Our pre-kindergarten program is designed to provide children with the foundation necessary for positive future learning. Children will engage in Language Arts, Handwriting, Math Concepts, Science & Technology, Social Awareness (Social Studies/Geography), Music, Visual Arts, self expression through journals, and large/small muscle development in our gym. PASS, PLAY SCORE! Fall Flag Football starts Saturday, September 19 through October 31 at 1:00pm for boys and girls ages 5-12. Learn football fundamentals without contact. Program focuses on sportsmanship and teamwork in a structured environment. Kids will learn passing, catching and running with the football while they develop leadership skills and build confidence in their athletic ability. Cost is $40 for members & $80 for non-members. PREPARE YOUR CHILD FOR SCHOOL - ENROLL YOUR PRESCHOOLER TODAY! The Early Childhood Program is designed to provide an environment that is safe, caring, and respectful of each child and his or her family while supporting each child’s unique developmental growth. This program is dedicated to quality child care by providing young children with creative learning experiences rooted in early childhood theory and practice. Our Preschool staff  focuses on making learning fun by integrating singing, dancing, and game playing into the curriculum while learning the calendar, shapes, letters, and numbers. Science experiments, food crafts, and stories all make the day fun and fly by. Focus is placed on introducing students to the skills they will be using in Duneland Schools and getting them ready for Kindergarten. Reading, writing, math, sight words, and learning to be independent are integrated daily. Preschool is offered in a variety of days: 5 days /$125 wk., 4 days/$115 wk., 3 days/$105 wk., and 2 days/$95wk. There is a program fee of $150 that is split into two $75 payments biannually. TUMBLE TOTS – for boys & girls ages 3-5 on Mondays for 4 weeks starting Aug. 31 (no class on Labor Day, Sept. 7) from 9:00-9:45am or 6:00-6:45pm in the Community Room. Teaches kids to have fun learning gymnastics/tumbling skills through age appropriate activities. Benefits include focus on increasing physical strength and muscle control, fine and gross motor skill development, coordination and balance along with intro to colors, language development and self-expression and much, much more. TINY TYKES – for boys & girls ages 18 months to 3 years on Mondays starting Aug. 31 for 4 Mondays (no class on Labor Day, Sept. 7) from 10:05-10:40am or 5:15-5:50pm in the Community Room. For toddlers and their “fun loving” adult. Small and large motor development is enhanced with an emphasis on hand-eye and overall coordination, balance and basic tumbling skills. Kids have fun learning gymnastics/tumbling skills through age appropriate activities. Cost is $20 for members and $40 for non-members. For more information, contact Instructor Janet Grant at the Y.

PROGRESSIVE SCHOOL AGE TUMBLING – for boys & girls in kindergarten & older for 4 weeks on Mondays starting Aug. 31 (no class on Labor Day, Sept. 7). “Rollers” class for beginners is from 5-6pm. It lays the foundation for movement and learning the next levels. No previous experience necessary. “Swingers” class for advance beginners is from 6-7pm and builds on skills and elements of Rollers, rounding out the developmental information needed to give a sound foundation. Participants should have mastered forward and backward rolls and be able to do handstands and cartwheels. Cost is $20 for members and $40 for non-members. FUN FOR WEE ONES – for boys & girls ages 18 months – 3 years on Wednesdays for 4 weeks starting Sept. 9 from 10:05 to 10:40am in the Community Room. Class offers a parent and child the opportunity to socialize with others and enjoy art, music and movement. This is a time to explore, discover, create and play together while sharing the joys and challenges of raising happy children with other parents. Cost is $20 for members and $40 for non-members. JUST FOR FUN – for boys & girls ages 3-5 on Wednesdays for 4 weeks starting Sept. 9 from 9:00-9:45am in the Community Room. Introduces children to playing in a group setting with lots of hands-on activities and experiences in an environment conducive to exploration. The teacher will introduce your child to activities, science, exploration, music and story time. They’ll be encouraged to work on self-help skills like pouring during snack time, helping put toys and manipulatives away and putting on their own sweaters and jackets. We’re adding a variety of new classes at new times in addition to our existing schedule – early mornings, mid-day, late afternoon and weekend classes. There will be a class to fit everyone’s busy lifestyle. Tabata, Wheels/Weights, Sport Yoga, Cardio Kickboxing, Circuit, Killer Core and any more! New trainers specializing in a variety of techniques: muscle building, therapeutic exercise, athletic training and more.

RISE & SHINE A.M. CYCLE CLASSES – Get your workout early & quickly with our NEW Group Cycle Express Classes! It’s a great workout that offers an exhilarating cardiovascular challenge. Great for all fitness levels. Tuesday and Thursday, 6:45-7:30am with Instructor Sue.

TABATA . . . SAY WHAT? Tabata is a high-intensity workout protocol that has fitness and weight-loss benefits. It is also a very short workout. It’s a mix between circuit training and CrossFit. It’s great for people with busy lifestyles and offers the maximum benefit in the least amount of time. Class meets Thursdays from 9-10am starting in September.

STRENGTH & TONE – New Times, New Instructors, New Workouts! A great class for a beginning or an experienced exerciser! You will strengthen your body through exercises that focus on core stability, strength and cardiovascular performance. You’ll be challenged and have fun! INSANITY! Digging Deeper & Getting Results!!! – More Insanity classes are coming in September! 50 Minutes of an intense cardio workout build for optimal weight loss and muscle toning. CO-ED ADULT VOLLEYBALL – for ages 18 and older. A fun, interactive way for adults to get out of the house and stay active. Members can play for free! And, you can let the kids play in the Y Fun Zone while you compete with adults your age. Teams are made each evening in a pickup style format. Starts October 5 @ 7:00pm, play on Monday and Wednesday. SILVER SNEAKERS CARDIO CIRCUIT CLASS - Class consists of standing low impact choreography alternating with standing upper body work with weights, tubes with handles and s.s. ball. Class meets Tuesdays at 11:30 a.m. in the Fitness Room with Instructor Deborah and on Thursdays at 11:30 a.m. in the Fitness Room with Instructor Nancy.

WALKIN' WEDNESDAYS - Join the Duneland Family YMCA Staff as we walk a designated 5k route through the Town of Chesterton every Wednesday afternoon. Everyone is welcome to participate - adults, teens, children, moms with strollers and pets on leashes. PARENT'S NIGHT OUT - Every Friday night 6:00-9:30 PM, Parents can utilize the Parent’s Night Out program and stop worrying about finding a sitter. Trained YMCA staff have organized and fun activities planned to keep each child’s attention. From arts and crafts to gym time it is never a dull moment on Friday evenings at the Y. Not to mention, it is affordable! The cost for members is $10 for the first child & $5 for each additional child. The non-member rate is $20 for the first child & $10 for each additional child.
