Youth Development

FAMILY POT LUCK DINNER, "AROUND THE TABLE" - Sunday, October 26 from 5:30 to 7:30pm. Bring a dish to share with other families. You'll have some great discussions. Mealtime is a great way to spend meaningful time with your kids and learn about their friends and interests. It's a good time for talking and listening to what your kids have to say and lovingly reinforcing good family values. Engaging in conversations with other families can show how to open new avenues of communication in your own family. EMPOWER Porter County and the Duneland Family YMCA are partnering to provide this great opportunity. FREE TO DUNELAND FAMILIES. Please call 926-4204 to RSVP.

YOUTH SPECIAL NEEDS SPORTS PROGRAMS - Youth Special Needs Basketball for boys and girls ages 7-12 starts Saturday, October 25th at noon. Registration is now open. This program meets every Saturday through November 22. There will be skills sessions as part of the one hour game. Optional skills sessions also offered each week on Wednesdays from 3-5 pm. Designed to give kids with special needs an opportunity to get physical exercise and have a positive social experience through sports. Program participants will work on developing coordination and teamwork skills through the use of "Buddies". Program cost is $25 for all participants; jersey fee is $15. YOUTH BASKETBALL REGISTRATION IS OPEN - Youth Fall Basketball League starts on Saturday, October 25 at 10:00 a.m. 3-9 Year olds practice on Tuesday, Wednesday OR Thursday and have a game on Saturday. 10-12 year olds practice on Tuesday and have a game on Thursday. Cost is $40 for members; $80 for non-members. Multiple child discounts and financial assistance is available. Call Paul Jones for more information.

AFTER SCHOOL CHILD CARE AT LIBERTY INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL provides a safe environment for intermediate school students to engage in educational, recreational, cultural and social activities after school. Program offers homework assistance, academic enrichment, tutoring, reading/literacy, sports, art, community service, leadership development and cultural enrichment with a high staff to student ratio. LIV TRU/DUNELAND Y AFTER SCHOOL MENTORING FOR GRADES 7 & 8 - The Y is partnering with PATH to provide LIV TRU, an amazing program to form friendships and plan for your future. SUNDAY YOGA CLASS HAS BEEN CANCELLED FOR OCTOBER 26.

COMMUNITY NURSE -  On Tuesday, October 28, the Community Wellness Nurse will conduct total cholesterol and blood sugar screenings (12 hour fasting required) from 8:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. All screenings take place in the Y Senior Center.

CHANNEL YOUR INNER PERFORMER - Pound. Rockout. Workout. - New program starts November 4th. Rock your body with this modern-day fusion of movement and music. using Ripstixtm weighted drumsticks engineered for exercise, POUND transforms drumming into an effective 45 minute full-body workout. Meets Tuesdays @ 8AM in the Community Room and Thursdays @ 7PM in the Fitness Room with Instructor Amanda Weaver. Cost for members is $6 and for non-members, $10. BOOT CAMP - A fun mix of calisthenics and body weight exercises along with cardio and strength training. Be prepared for some fun high intensity training with instructor Michelle Corrigan. TRIFECTA CHALLENGE - OBSTACLE RACE TRAINING - We're challenging YOU to complete ALL OF THIS! 1, 2 & 3 full circuits on 3 separate days within one month. One circuit includes 8 laps which equals 1+ miles & 12 obstacles. You must complete each obstacle, or if you fail, you must complete a 30 full burpee penalty before you move on. Complete the challenge in 50 minutes during classes on Tuesday & Thursdays from 6:10 to 7:00pm. Results must be recorded on-site by instructor. PARENT'S NIGHT OUT - Every Friday night 6:00-9:30 PM, Parents can utilize the Parent’s Night Out program and stop worrying about finding a sitter. Trained YMCA staff have organized and fun activities planned to keep each child’s attention. From arts and crafts to gym time it is never a dull moment on Friday evenings at the Y. Not to mention, it is affordable! The cost for members is $10 for the first child & $5 for each additional child. The non-member rate is $20 for the first child & $10 for each additional child. Your Duneland Family YMCA Story - The Y is interested in your Y story. YOU MATTER TO US! We'd like to create "story boards" to display within our facility to help create friendships and a better understanding of our cause.
